Authors are asked to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) in order for their article to be published Open Access under a Creative Commons license. This covers the costs involved in every stage of the publication process, from administrating peer-review to copy editing and hosting the final article on dedicated servers. The APC is determined at the time of acceptance.
The cost of the APC is the same regardless of the number of words or the inclusion of figures. While this means that we do not charge extra for longer articles and place no limit on the number of figures, it also means that we cannot offer discounts for shorter pieces. Where a journal has variable APC depending on the article type, it is clearly stated on the journal's website.
